In January, Tottenham is hopeful of reuniting James Maddison and Wilfred Ndidi, former teammates at Leicester City. The north London club is interested in acquiring Ndidi’s services as his contract at the King Power Stadium approaches its end.
After being relegated from the Premier League last season, Leicester has had an excellent start to their 2023/2024 campaign. The Foxes have won 13 out of their 15 Championship matches and currently sit at the top of the table, four points clear.
Ndidi, who has been with Leicester since 2016, has played a crucial role in their early successes and has attracted attention from several top European clubs. According to TeamTalk, Leicester is making efforts to extend his stay, but an agreement has not yet been reached.
The report also mentions that Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have shown interest in the midfielder. Lyon, Monaco, Tottenham, Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Brentford are also closely monitoring his contractual situation.
With Ndidi’s contract expiring in June, he will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January. Tottenham hopes to position themselves ahead of other clubs in the race to secure the 26-year-old’s signature.
Previous reports suggested that Ndidi wanted to leave Leicester during the summer, but the Nigerian international has since denied this. On the When You’re Smiling Podcast on BBC Radio Leicester in September, Ndidi revealed that a conversation with new manager Enzo Maresca had filled him with confidence for the current season.
“I never thought of leaving the club during the summer because when he (Maresca) arrived, he explained his philosophy and the simplicity of the game, which I felt I could learn from,” Ndidi said. “I’ve been open-minded in trying to learn more about his philosophy and style of play, and it has been going well. I’m happy here. Whenever I saw the news about me wanting to leave, I just laughed because it wasn’t true.”
