As Rodgers went on to achieve success with Leicester, including an FA Cup victory and qualification for the Champions League, Mendy found himself on the sidelines, frustrated by his lack of playing time.
In a revealing interview with L’Equipe, Mendy expressed his desire to leave the club sooner due to his strained relationship with Rodgers, but was unable to do so until after the manager’s departure. Since joining Lens in Ligue 1, Mendy has regained his form and is thriving in his new environment. He points to Rodgers’ arrival as the turning point in his Premier League career, stating, “Everything was going well until Puel was replaced by Brendan Rodgers, and he gradually sidelined me. I never regained my place. The worst part is that when I wanted to leave, the club refused. In the end, I was just waiting for my contract to end. Honestly, I’ve come alive again since that moment.”
