Leeds United supporters are feeling anxious about the possibility of Archie Gray departing the club, as Paraag Marathe has openly admitted that his future at Elland Road is uncertain.
In a recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who still has strong connections with the club, disclosed that the 18-year-old may be sold this summer in order to address the financial challenges faced by the Whites.
The club is urgently required to generate a staggering £150 million through player sales after failing to secure promotion, leaving a £73.6 million unpaid transfer fee burden to be settled by the end of June. Speculation abounds regarding the potential departure of key players in the coming weeks.
Marathe, the Leeds chairman, has acknowledged the possibility of necessary transfers to comply with profit and sustainability rules. Robinson expressed concerns about the financial constraints affecting Leeds’ ability to retain their top talents for the next season.
“It will be impossible to maintain the current squad,” Robinson said. “The manager has performed well this season, except for a few setbacks. The financial challenges and losses faced by the club are clear indicators of the need for action.
“The outstanding transfer fees and the impending issues with Financial Fair Play and profit and sustainability regulations will be obstacles to overcome.
“The mention of Archie Gray in the chairman’s statement regarding potential trades and deals is disconcerting for Leeds fans, who highly value him as a player.
“There is a real risk of losing talents like Gray, Gnonto, and Summerville.”
