Former Leicester Winger Flags Black Cats As Threat But Has Key Doubt

Former winger for Leicester City, has expressed uncertainty about whether or not Sunderland has enough in their squad to remain in the promotion race in the Championship this season. However, he did acknowledge that they are competitors of the Foxes.

Sunderland has won two of their last three league games and is currently sitting sixth in the Championship standings, trailing league leaders Leicester by 13 points.

Having lost in the playoff semi-finals last season, the Black Cats are once again striving to be part of the promotion race in the current campaign.

Despite Leicester’s recent losses igniting the competition for the automatic promotion spots, Matt Piper believes that Leeds United and Sunderland are the top teams to watch.

However, Piper expressed doubts about whether the Black Cats have what it takes to maintain their position in the promotion race this season.

He sees powerhouses like Leeds and Leicester as strong contenders who have the ability to secure a place in the Premier League next season.

Piper stated his preference for Leeds, Sunderland, and Southampton, and highlighted the similarities between Sunderland and Leicester, including the youthfulness of their team. He questioned whether Sunderland has the required staying power.

Piper emphasized the strength and experience of both Leeds and Leicester, asserting that these qualities will be crucial in the later stages of the season.

After the international break, Sunderland will face Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, 25th November. They have previously played Leicester this season, narrowly losing 1-0 at the King Power Stadium.
