Middlesbrough confirm loan signing of Leicester defender

MIDDLESBROUGH have completed the signing of Luke Thomas on a season-long loan from Championship rivals Leicester City.

Luke Thomas has joined Middlesbrough on a season-long loan from Leicester City, adding depth and experience to the Boro defense. The 22-year-old, who can play at left-back or left wing-back, will be competing for a starting position against Lukas Engel. Thomas, who has almost 100 senior appearances and has represented England at the Under-18s and Under-21s level, struggled to establish himself during a loan spell at Sheffield United. However, he is now looking forward to the opportunity at Middlesbrough after falling out of favor at Leicester. Boro’s head coach, Michael Carrick, is pleased with the addition of Thomas and looks forward to working with him. Thomas is set to make his Boro debut in the upcoming Tees-Wear derby and joins fellow new arrivals Finn Azaz and Luke Ayling at the club. The team’s recruitment staff will continue to assess potential attacking options before the transfer window closes, with the possibility of waiting until the summer for more desirable long-term options. Interest from Aston Villa in forward Morgan Rogers may also impact Boro’s final decision on making any additional signings before the deadline.
