Nottingham Forest winger Jota Silva is expected to return to the City Ground this summer following the apparent decision by Besiktas not to trigger the option to make his loan move permanent.
The Portuguese attacker joined the Turkish giants on a season-long loan last summer after a proposed transfer to Sporting Lisbon fell through late in the window. While Silva expressed no frustration over the collapsed deal and settled into life in Istanbul, his time at Besiktas has been a mixed one.
Despite gradually working his way into the squad, Silva has struggled to secure consistent minutes, making just 14 league appearances. He recently found the net in a 4-2 victory over Antalyaspor, taking his tally to four goals across all competitions this season. However, those contributions have reportedly not done enough to convince Besiktas to meet the €17 million fee required to sign him permanently.
Reports from Turkey indicate that the club has already made a firm decision, with Silva “definitely leaving” at the end of the campaign. Besiktas are instead preparing for a busy summer rebuild, which could also include the departure of other wide players, further signaling a shift in their attacking options.
For Nottingham Forest, Silva’s return presents both an opportunity and a dilemma. Since arriving from Vitoria Guimaraes in 2024 for €7 million, the winger has made 37 appearances for the club. While he showed flashes of promise, he has yet to fully establish himself as a key figure.
Forest’s situation adds another layer of intrigue. The club is currently locked in a relegation battle, sitting just above the drop zone with a handful of matches remaining. Their league status could heavily influence transfer decisions this summer, including whether Silva is reintegrated into the squad or sold.
One factor that may work in Silva’s favour is the presence of a new manager. With Vitor Pereira now in charge, there is a possibility the Portuguese coach could take a closer look at his compatriot during pre-season before making a final decision on his future.
With a contract running until 2028, Nottingham Forest are under no immediate pressure to sell. However, as they prepare for a pivotal summer, Jota Silva’s next step remains uncertain—whether it’s a fresh start at the City Ground or another move away.
