Ipswich Town have strengthened their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League by confirming the permanent signings of Chuba Akpom and Cédric Kipré following their successful promotion campaign.
Kieran McKenna’s side secured an immediate return to the top flight with a decisive final-day victory over QPR, capping off a strong season and triggering key transfer clauses for two of their loan stars.
Akpom completes permanent switch after loan spell
Chuba Akpom has officially joined Ipswich on a permanent deal from Ajax after spending the season on loan at Portman Road.
The 30-year-old striker featured 31 times in all competitions during his loan spell, contributing two goals as part of Ipswich’s promotion-winning squad.
The club confirmed that a permanent move was activated during the 2025/26 campaign, with Akpom now signing a contract that runs until 2029, effective from July 1.
While his goal return may not fully reflect expectations, Ipswich valued his overall contribution to squad depth and experience during a demanding promotion push.
Kipré also makes move permanent
Defender Cédric Kipré has also completed a permanent switch after his loan spell from Stade de Reims, signing a deal until 2028.
The centre-back quickly became a trusted part of McKenna’s defensive unit, helping stabilise the back line during a crucial season.
Kipré expressed his delight at sealing the move, highlighting how quickly he settled into life at the club and his excitement at playing Premier League football with Ipswich.
Ipswich building for Premier League return
With promotion secured at the first attempt, Ipswich are now moving quickly to finalise key squad decisions ahead of a demanding top-flight campaign.
Securing players already familiar with McKenna’s system is seen as a major boost, giving the club continuity as they prepare for a significant step up in competition.
Both Akpom and Kipré’s permanent arrivals underline Ipswich’s strategy of stability and cohesion as they look to establish themselves back in the Premier League.
