Aston Villa Make Final Douglas Luiz Decision £23m Juventus Deal Now on the Brink as Unai Emery Plans Summer Shake-Up

Aston Villa are reportedly leaning against making Douglas Luiz’s loan move permanent this summer, with the midfielder now expected to return to Juventus once the season comes to an end.

Villa have the option to sign Luiz permanently for around £23 million, but recent reports suggest the club are unlikely to activate the clause after an inconsistent spell back at Villa Park.

The Brazilian returned with hopes of reigniting his best form under Unai Emery, but despite showing flashes of quality, he has struggled to secure a regular starting role in the squad.

Competition in midfield has made things even more difficult. Ross Barkley was often preferred earlier in the campaign, while the return of Youri Tielemans from injury has further pushed Luiz down the pecking order.

Although he has contributed as a useful squad option and emergency cover during a demanding season, Villa reportedly do not believe his performances justify such a significant financial commitment.

With the club expected to strengthen multiple areas of the squad this summer, Aston Villa are believed to feel the £23 million could be invested more effectively elsewhere.

Reports from Italy also suggest Juventus are now facing an uncertain situation regarding Luiz’s future. If Villa decline the option to buy, the Serie A giants would welcome back a player who has endured two underwhelming loan spells and whose long-term role at the club remains unclear.

The situation leaves Douglas Luiz facing an uncertain summer, with questions now growing over where the midfielder will continue his career next season.

For Aston Villa, the decision could form part of a much bigger rebuild as Unai Emery prepares for another ambitious campaign both domestically and in Europe.
