Ipswich Town’s summer transfer plans have taken an unexpected turn as La Liga giants Valencia have reportedly entered the race for goalkeeper Arijanet “Aro” Muric.
The Kosovo international, who spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Italian side Sassuolo, officially confirmed on Wednesday that he will not be staying at the Mapei Stadium, despite the club holding an option to buy him for approximately €10 million (£8.7 million).
“I Don’t Intend to Stay” — Muric Breaks Silence
Muric’s tenure in Serie A started as a redemption arc following a difficult Premier League stint with Ipswich. The 27-year-old impressed in Italy, making 32 starts and recording six clean sheets to help Sassuolo secure a mid-table finish.
However, speaking to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Muric delivered a blunt update on his future:
”I’m grateful for this season, but I don’t intend to play for Sassuolo next season. With the end of my loan, my time here also ends. It was a positive year and I enjoyed it, but I have informed the club that I don’t want to stay here after this season for personal reasons.”
The Valencia Interest
Spanish news outlet Cadena SER reports that Valencia are now monitoring the situation closely. Los Ches are reportedly seeking a more experienced and cost-effective option to bolster their goalkeeping ranks.
Currently managed by Carlos Corberán, Valencia face a crossroads in their goal. While they have the option to extend Stole Dimitrievski’s contract or move for Athletic Bilbao loanee Julen Agirrezabala, Muric’s availability and his desire for a fresh start make him a “prime candidate” for the Mestalla.
A Prudent Sale for Town?
Muric remains under contract at Portman Road until June 2028. While some Ipswich fans have called for him to be given a second chance in the top flight, the consensus among club insiders suggests that a permanent move away is the most likely outcome.
If Valencia—or rumored Italian suitors like Juventus—advance with a bid, Ipswich will likely look to recoup the majority of the £8 million they paid Burnley in 2024.
For Muric, the “personal reasons” cited for his Sassuolo departure suggest he is looking for a specific project. Whether that project lies in the sun of Spain or a return to parent club Ipswich remains the big question of the summer.
