West Ham United’s summer rebuild just took an unexpected twist, with reports suggesting Paris Saint-Germain could try to land winger Crysencio Summerville not with a straight cash offer, but by offloading two unwanted players in the process.
Where Things Actually Stand
PSG originally eyed a double swoop for both Mateus Fernandes and Summerville, with sporting director Luis Campos making contact and West Ham setting a combined valuation of around €130 million (roughly £110m) for the pair. That picture has since changed, though — Fernandes has already completed a separate £85 million move to Tottenham Hotspur, meaning PSG’s remaining interest is now focused entirely on Summerville, with the Hammers reportedly holding firm at around £50 million (€50m) for the Dutch international.
The Makeweight Twist
Here’s where it gets genuinely interesting. Rather than simply paying cash, reports out of France suggest West Ham have registered real interest in two PSG players who could sweeten any deal: 18-year-old winger Ibrahim Mbaye and out-of-favor midfielder Renato Sanches.
Mbaye, a Senegal international briefly linked with Liverpool, is reportedly not expected to stick around at PSG given how limited his path to regular football looks under Luis Enrique. West Ham’s ambitious rebuild project — built around an immediate return to the Premier League — could offer exactly the kind of consistent playing time he’s chasing.
Sanches: A Reclamation Project
The more eye-catching name, though, is Renato Sanches. Once one of the most hyped young midfielders in world football, his time in Paris has been defined by injury setbacks and disappointment, and he’s reportedly fallen completely out of Luis Enrique’s plans. With his contract entering its final year and his market value collapsing from an original €15 million fee down to an estimated €2 million, PSG are said to be eager to move him on with minimal fuss.
For West Ham, gambling on a reclamation project like Sanches in the Championship carries obvious risk — but also real upside if he can rediscover even a fraction of the form that once made him one of Europe’s most coveted young talents.
Why This Deal Makes Sense for Both Sides
The logic isn’t hard to follow. West Ham, newly relegated and needing to raise serious funds while trimming their wage bill, get to cash in on Summerville while adding younger or reclamation talent to support their promotion push. PSG, meanwhile, offload two players who no longer fit their plans while strengthening their squad depth with a proven Premier League performer.

Nothing here is close to finalized, and Fernandes’ swift departure to Spurs is a reminder of just how quickly these transfer situations can shift.
