Nottingham Forest have drawn a hard line in the sand regarding the future of star midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, firmly rejecting any suggestion that the playmaker could be sold to a Premier League rival this summer.
Following a summer window already marked by high-profile departures—including Elliot Anderson’s big-money switch to Manchester City—Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis and the club hierarchy are in no mood to weaken Oliver Glasner’s squad further, despite mounting interest and serious financial muscle coming from Aston Villa.
Unai Emery’s Side Ready to Splash the Cash
Aston Villa find themselves flush with funds following Morgan Rogers’ mega-money sale to Chelsea alongside other significant squad sales. Manager Unai Emery has identified Gibbs-White as the ideal replacement to spearhead Villa’s upcoming Champions League campaign, with the club reportedly prepared to spend a massive fee to test Forest’s resolve.
The 26-year-old England international has established himself as an indispensable creative force at the City Ground, combining exceptional work rate, versatility, and proven Premier League pedigree. However, prising him away from Nottinghamshire will be an entirely different challenge.
Marinakis Stands Firm After Past Precedent
According to former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown, Forest have absolutely zero intention of letting their talisman leave under any circumstances.
“Nottingham Forest have been clear about their stance on Gibbs-White,” Brown told Football Insider. “They don’t want to lose him under any circumstances, that’s why they got him to sign a new contract last summer to stop him joining Tottenham, and that stance hasn’t changed.
Regardless of the money that might be on the table from Villa, it will be very difficult to do a deal with Forest, because they’re standing firm. Gibbs-White is a very important player for them and has been a big part of their success, losing him would be a huge blow, so they’re ready to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
As demonstrated last summer when Marinakis personally intervened to block a potential move to Tottenham and secure a long-term contract extension, Forest’s owner is notoriously stubborn when negotiating for his prized assets. Having already watched key personnel depart, the club is fully committed to keeping their core intact as they prepare for another demanding domestic campaign.
