West Ham United’s summer recruitment drive has taken a fascinating new turn. As manager Nuno Espírito Santo works frantically to reconstruct his engine room following a wave of significant exits, the Hammers have officially entered the race to secure highly-rated 21-year-old midfielder Amadou Koné.
According to reports from Foot Mercato, West Ham are closely monitoring the Ivory Coast Under-23 international following his eye-catching debut season in the Saudi Pro League with NEOM. Koné first burst onto European radars during his spell in France with Stade de Reims, where he made 39 senior appearances after arriving in 2023. Last summer, he opted for a lucrative switch to Saudi Arabia, making 33 appearances in his debut campaign with NEOM while chipping in with two goals and an assist from a deep-lying defensive midfield role.
Born in Mali but representing the Ivory Coast at youth international level, Koné’s combination of youthful energy, physical presence, and strong defensive instincts make him an intriguing long-term prospect. With West Ham facing an enormous void in central areas following Mateus Fernandes’ massive £85 million departure to Tottenham Hotspur—alongside the expected exit of Edson Álvarez—adding fresh defensive shielding is an absolute priority.
