Aston Villa’s ambitious summer preparations are officially underway, but it is their newest marquee arrival who has set the fanbase ablaze. Following his sensational season-long loan move from Chelsea last week—featuring a £43 million conditional obligation-to-buy clause—winger Alejandro Garnacho has finally pulled on the famous claret and blue.
Making his debut on Saturday during Villa’s dominant 3-1 pre-season victory over the Indonesia All-Stars in the Far East (thanks to goals from Emi Buendia, Ross Barkley, and Brian Madjo), Garnacho played the opening 45 minutes on the left flank before being substituted at the break.
However, rather than uniting the supporters, the Argentine’s first 45 minutes on the pitch have left the Aston Villa fanbase completely divided.

Garnacho’s arrival in the Midlands comes after a difficult campaign at Stamford Bridge. He displayed neat touches, successful take-ons, and was unfortunate not to score when Buendía opted against passing to him with an open goal at his mercy.
Yet, his performance sparked a fierce debate among supporters online, with opinions sharply split between optimism and skepticism.
Optimistic fans were quick to back the winger’s potential under Emery’s tutelage. One supporter wrote:
