Keldon Johnson, the longest-tenured player currently on the Spurs’ roster, finds himself trapped in an increasingly untenable predicament with no contract extension in sight.
As the franchise gears up for the 2026-27 NBA season, a hard look at San Antonio’s projected rotation reveals that KJ’s best path forward to maximize his prime years may ultimately require a fresh start in a different city.

With Julian Champagnie providing vital floor-spacing and veteran arrival Tobias Harris secured to anchor minutes at the forward spots, Johnson’s particular brand of offense no longer matches San Antonio’s offensive scheme.
