Newcastle United have dramatically revived their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha after a fresh round of talks, with the arrival of new head coach Matthias Jaissle breathing new life into one of the club’s biggest transfer ambitions.

The Magpies had previously explored the possibility of signing the Germany international earlier in the summer. However, negotiations quickly lost momentum after Borussia Dortmund made it clear they had no intention of letting the midfielder leave cheaply. At the same time, Nmecha himself was reportedly unconvinced by Newcastle’s sporting direction under the previous setup.

That picture has now changed significantly.

According to fresh reports, Newcastle have reopened communication with Nmecha’s representatives after presenting Jaissle’s long-term vision for the club. The German coach’s plans for the future have reportedly impressed the player’s camp, leaving the midfielder far more open to a potential switch to St. James’ Park than he was just a few weeks ago.

Earlier this summer, Dortmund sporting director Nils-Ole Book dismissed suggestions that Nmecha could leave, insisting that only an extraordinary offer would even force the club to consider a sale.

Despite that firm stance, Newcastle remain determined to test Dortmund’s resolve.

The renewed contact with Nmecha’s representatives is understood to have significantly improved the player’s openness toward the project unfolding under Jaissle. The German coach’s emphasis on developing elite young talent while building a squad capable of competing at the highest level has reportedly resonated with the midfielder’s camp.

For Newcastle, the challenge is now straightforward—but incredibly expensive.

If they truly believe Nmecha is the player capable of replacing the influence lost through recent departures, they must decide whether they are prepared to submit a proposal capable of changing Dortmund’s position.
