Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Delivers Exciting Injury Update on Teenage Sensation Brian Madjo

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has provided an encouraging update regarding the fitness of highly rated young striker Brian Madjo, confirming that the 17-year-old is closing in on a return to first-team action.

The talented teenager has endured a frustrating start to the new campaign, having been sidelined with an injury just as his career in claret and blue was beginning to gather serious momentum. However, the international break has presented the perfect window for his rehabilitation, with Emery revealing that the striker is set to resume full collective training over the coming days.

A Long Road to the Pitch for the Metzt Arrival

Madjo’s journey to Villa Park has been anything but straightforward. After securing a high-profile transfer from French club FC Metz in January, the young forward was immediately forced into bureaucratic limbo when FIFA initially refused to register him.

The situation was finally resolved when the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled in Villa’s favor over the summer following a successful appeal. That legal victory allowed Madjo to be cleared for competitive action ahead of the new season, and he wasted no time making an impact.

Handed a dramatic competitive debut against French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the prestigious UEFA Super Cup, Madjo announced himself to the global stage by scoring a brilliant goal, though Villa ultimately fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat. Having also turned heads with a string of impressive goals and performances during pre-season, expectations surrounding the teenager skyrocketed.

Injury Setback and Champions League Omission

Unfortunately, momentum was abruptly halted when an untimely injury ruled Madjo out of Villa’s final pre-season fixture against Borussia Monchengladbach. That setback has kept him sidelined for the opening six matches of the domestic campaign, including a high-stakes clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Compounding the frustration, Madjo was omitted from Aston Villa’s official squad for the league phase of the UEFA Champions League, meaning he is ineligible for European competition during the first half of the season unless he is added should the club reach the knockout stages.

Despite these hurdles, Unai Emery remains firmly optimistic about the youngster’s long-term future and immediate integration into the senior squad. Speaking about Madjo’s recovery timeline, Emery explained:

“In this break, he is going to start training with us collectively. Now he is still working alone, but in this break, he is going to join us collectively and hopefully then after the break [he will play].”

Boosting Squad Depth During the International Pause

With domestic football pausing for international fixtures, Villa have arranged valuable behind-the-scenes opportunities to get their recovering stars up to speed.

The club has scheduled two behind-closed-doors friendlies during the break—initially hosting Southampton at Bodymoor Heath before embarking on a trip to Spain to face La Liga side Sevilla. These fixtures could provide the ideal proving ground for Madjo to shake off any remaining rust and demonstrate his readiness for selection when the Premier League resumes.

As Emery and his coaching staff look to manage a demanding schedule across multiple fronts, the impending return of a dynamic, high-ceiling talent like Brian Madjo will feel like a brand-new signing for supporters eager to see what the future holds for the young French star.
