The San Antonio Spurs have officially put the finishing touches on their preparations for the upcoming season, signing former North Carolina standout guard RJ Davis to a training camp contract. With this final piece in place, the Spurs have locked in a complete 21-man roster as they head into training camp.
Davis, a 6-foot guard, enters San Antonio looking to carve out a permanent home after a stellar rookie professional campaign. Following an undrafted entry into the league in 2025, Davis spent last year tearing up the G League with the South Bay Lakers, where he earned a well-deserved spot on the G League All-Rookie Team.
A Proven G League Standout
During his rookie developmental season, Davis showcased elite offensive upside across 49 appearances:
- Scoring Punch: Averaged 18.4 points per game in roughly 29.6 minutes of action.
- Elite Efficiency: Shot an impressive 46.8 percent from the field, a lethal 42.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 86.4 percent from the free-throw line.
- Playmaking: Added 4.9 assists and 3.8 rebounds per contest.
After turning heads with the Spurs’ summer league squad in July—highlighted by a smooth 20-point, 3-assist performance—Davis cemented his trajectory toward San Antonio when his G League rights were traded to the Austin Spurs.
Setting the Camp Stage
Davis joins Jon Elmore, Taelon Peter, and Malik Williams as camp invitees playing on non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 deals. While he will compete intensely for a long-term spot on the main roster, his path likely points toward anchoring the backcourt for Austin in the G League, where spending at least 60 days could net him a max bonus under league rules.
With 14 players locked into guaranteed standard deals and three occupying two-way slots, head coach Mitch Johnson and the front office have assembled a deep, versatile group ready to push the pace and build off last season’s success.
