England manager Thomas Tuchel has found himself at the center of a raging storm following his scathing public criticism of Chelsea star Cole Palmer. While the footballing world debates squad selection and international commitment, West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen’s remarkable story has inadvertently exposed a glaring contradiction in Tuchel’s selection policy.
If availability and unwavering dedication truly are the golden standards for wearing the Three Lions, Bowen’s continued omission makes very little sense.

What makes Tuchel’s stance so difficult to reconcile is the extraordinary lengths Jarrod Bowen has gone to in order to put his country first.
During a pivotal stretch last year when Bowen was firmly establishing himself as the premier English right-winger in the Premier League, he desperately hoped to earn a call-up. To ensure that international duty would never conflict with his availability, sources confirmed that Bowen actually rearranged his wedding to Dani Dyer not once, but twice.
Moving your wedding date twice is a monumental personal sacrifice. Yet, despite bending over backwards and proving his commitment on every possible front, Bowen was left out of the squad anyway.
Furthermore, Bowen has consistently answered the call at a moment’s notice—even accepting late call-ups as a replacement for Palmer under interim boss Lee Carsley. He has repeatedly demonstrated an eagerness to put personal milestones and rest periods aside for the badge.
Producing on the Pitch Despite the Snubs
It isn’t as though Bowen’s international ambitions are unsupported by his club form. Even as West Ham struggled domestically over recent years, Bowen has been a model of consistency, regularly contributing over 20 combined goals and assists at the highest level of English football.
He has also opened the new campaign in scintillating form, making his continued exclusion following the latest round of injuries all the more glaring.
Tuchel is entirely within his rights as manager to pick the tactical profile that best suits his vision. However, by publicly hammering home the importance of dedication, availability, and showing up when called upon, the England boss has inadvertently invited intense scrutiny over how those exact principles have been applied to West Ham’s talisman.
If commitment to England is as vital as Tuchel claims it is, perhaps a player who literally moved his wedding twice deserves to finally have his extraordinary dedication rewarded.
