“Stormed Out”: Evangelos Marinakis Reaching Boiling Point as Oliver Glasner Faces Sacking Threat at Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner’s position at the City Ground is hanging by a thread, with explosive insider reports revealing owner Evangelos Marinakis was left “personally embarrassed” and allegedly stormed out of the boardroom following Sunday’s humiliating 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Despite deep underlying statistical data demonstrating that Forest rank third in the Premier League for expected points (xPTS) and second in expected goals against (xGA), football results remain the ultimate currency in East Midlands. With just a single victory from their opening six Premier League fixtures, Glasner is facing an immediate ultimatum ahead of the November international break.

Speaking exclusively on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness warned that the Austrian tactician is rapidly running out of time as Marinakis loses patience.

Palace Defeat Hits Personal Nerve for Marinakis

According to Wyness, losing to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park was a massive personal blow to Marinakis, given the Greek tycoon’s intense, high-profile feuds with the South London club in recent years.

Beyond ongoing legal disputes with Palace supporters over controversial banners, Marinakis played a direct role in Crystal Palace being demoted from the UEFA Europa League in the summer of 2025. Dropping three points to a fierce off-pitch rival has severely eroded the goodwill Glasner held with the hierarchy.

“Well, I really thought he’d have a lot longer, but I’m afraid to say maybe not, from what I’m hearing,” Wyness revealed to Football Insider. “We know Mr Marinakis is a man that doesn’t like to see these sorts of things happening. I’ve got to say the next November break is actually going to be a pretty key time for him. It’s much, much quicker than I ever imagined or could see happening.”

“And the Palace result, obviously for him, was a personal embarrassment. I could imagine Marinakis probably stormed out of that boardroom.”

Multi-Million City Ground Redevelopment Heightens Sacking Pressure

Adding fuel to the fire is Forest’s impending multi-million-pound City Ground stadium upgrade. Marinakis is preparing a massive capital investment to expand Trentside’s seating capacity, and the board believes maintaining top-flight stability is vital to filling the expanded arena.

“He’s now got the pressure of the new stadium,” Wyness added. “That’s what he’s thinking in his mind… what’s it going to take now to get this club ticking along now, because I’m going to be making a mega investment in Nottingham.”

The Sack Race: Glasner, Carrick, and Arbeloa in the Firing Line

Wyness named Glasner alongside Fulham’s Álvaro Arbeloa and Manchester United manager Michael Carrick as the top three primary candidates to become the Premier League’s first managerial sacking of the 2026/27 campaign.

Despite earning a lucrative wage package at the City Ground, Glasner’s inability to translate strong tactical metrics into actual wins has put his job in immediate jeopardy. Facing reigning champions Arsenal on Sunday before battling through a brutal pre-international schedule, Oliver Glasner must deliver immediate victories—or Evangelos Marinakis will make another ruthless managerial change.
