Following the withdrawal of his offer for Manchester United, Sheikh Jassim is reportedly considering a surprising takeover bid for Tottenham. The Qatari businessman had initially hoped to acquire majority control of United but lost out to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s offer for a minority stake. Ratcliffe, a lifelong United fan, submitted an adjusted bid of around £1.4 billion for a 25 percent stake, leaving Jassim out in the cold but still determined to make his mark in English football.
According to the Mirror, Jassim may now set his sights on Tottenham, who held talks with QSI boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi earlier this year. While a QSI takeover of Spurs seemed unlikely due to UEFA restrictions and their ownership of PSG, it is possible that a consortium led by Jassim could make a surprise move for the club. Jassim and his group were prepared to offer £5.5 billion, with an additional £1 billion for the renovation of Old Trafford and new player signings. However, unlike United, infrastructure is not a concern for Spurs as they boast a state-of-the-art stadium. Furthermore, the price for the London-based club, though significant, would be considerably lower than the proposed fee for the acquisition of the country’s largest club.
