“We Just Weren’t Good Enough”
Club captain Jarrod Bowen, who was the heartbeat of the Hammers’ attack with 20 goal contributions this season, took to Instagram to offer a raw and unfiltered apology to the supporters.
”It’s hard to post something like this when all you’re feeling is embarrassment and pain,” Bowen wrote. “I could write loads trying to explain where it all went wrong this season, but honestly what you deserve from me is an apology.”
Reflecting on the stark contrast between the ecstasy of the club’s recent European success and Sunday’s relegation, Bowen added: “Winning that trophy in Prague was the best night of my career. Sunday was the worst. We just weren’t good enough. Simple as that.”
The Road Ahead: Nuno Stays to Lead Promotion Charge
While fans braced for a potential managerial overhaul, the club board has acted swiftly to provide stability. On Wednesday, West Ham confirmed that head coach Nuno Espírito Santo will remain at the London Stadium to lead the club’s promotion bid for the 2026/27 season.
The board cited an upturn in form and squad mentality since January as reasons for their decision. Nuno, who famously secured 99 points and the Championship title with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018, has been tasked with an immediate return to the top flight.
”This club belongs in the Premier League and deserves to be back there as soon as possible,” Bowen concluded. For the Hammers, the long, difficult road back to English football’s elite begins now.
