Marseille paid around €35 million to sign Paixão from Feyenoord last summer, and they’re demanding the exact same fee back if anyone wants to prise him away — their way of making sure they don’t lose money on their club-record signing. In his debut season in France, Paixão racked up 12 goals and seven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions — a genuinely electric return for a wide player in his first year in a new league. He was just as dangerous on the European stage, scoring four times in eight Champions League appearances.

At 26, operating primarily from the left, Paixão offers exactly what both Leeds and Villa are hunting for: real pace, direct one-on-one threat, and a proven ability to punish defenders at the highest level.

Villa’s Trump Card: Champions League Football

Here’s where things get complicated for Leeds. Aston Villa have qualified for the Champions League this season — something Leeds simply cannot offer a player of Paixão’s ambition.
