Ex Leicester City Striker Reveals: ‘I Was Very Close To Joining Inter Milan In 2020’

Former Leicester City striker, Islam Slimani, recently opened up about his near move to Inter Milan in 2020. Speaking to GianlucaDiMarzio.com through FCInterNews, Slimani revealed that he was very close to joining the Nerazzurri in January of that year.

At the time, Inter was in need of a striker and coach Antonio Conte was eager to add a tall, physical centre-forward to the team. Slimani, who was on loan at Monaco from Leicester, fit the profile Conte was looking for. However, due to the timing, the move did not materialize, with Slimani expressing his disappointment at missing out on the opportunity.

Slimani, who is currently playing for Belgian Pro League side Mechelen, remains hopeful for the future, despite being 35 years old. He reflected on the possibility of joining Inter, stating that he could still make a move at his age, having previously played for clubs like Newcastle United, Lyon, and Sporting CP.
