Barcelona have reportedly stepped up their interest in Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, with fresh claims from Spain suggesting his representatives have already held discussions with the Catalan club.
Spanish outlet Sport report that Barcelona sporting director Deco, along with football coordinator Bojan Krkic, met with Gordon’s agents during a recent visit. The meeting is said to be part of a wider round of talks as the player’s camp explores potential summer options across Europe.
Gordon, 25, has become one of Newcastle’s most important attacking players and has attracted growing attention after another strong season at St James’ Park. His performances in the Champions League, including matches against Barcelona themselves, are understood to have left a strong impression on the Spanish giants.
Barcelona are actively looking to strengthen their wide attacking options this summer. The club are currently assessing whether to make Marcus Rashford’s loan move permanent, while also considering alternatives such as Real Betis winger Abde Ezzalzouli.
Gordon is viewed as a profile that fits their system, with his pace, pressing intensity and ability to operate across the front line making him an attractive target. However, Newcastle’s valuation is expected to be a major obstacle.
Reports suggest the Magpies would demand around £80 million for the England international, a fee that could prove difficult for Barcelona to meet given their ongoing financial constraints.
