Nottingham Forest are facing an anxious wait over the fitness of Morgan Gibbs-White ahead of their crucial Europa League semi-final second leg against Aston Villa, after the midfielder suffered a worrying head injury against Chelsea.

Forest boss Vitor Pereira admitted after the match that the club are still assessing the situation, with medical staff closely monitoring the player’s condition in the aftermath of the injury.
“I’m waiting. Gibbs-White has a deep cut but he is a fighter and has a strong mentality,” Pereira said. “I hope our medical department can do magic to put him in condition. We will see.”
The Forest manager added that the midfielder was conscious and able to communicate clearly, but stressed that the main issue remains the pain and recovery timeline.
“He is speaking normally, he remembers everything. The only thing is the pain,” he added.

Forest’s concerns were further heightened by a second head injury incident in the same match, with defender Zach Abbott also requiring a concussion substitution after a separate clash during the game.
Pereira confirmed Abbott was recovering well, but the double setback has raised wider concerns about player welfare and availability at a critical stage of the season.
