Former Arsenal sporting director Edu has officially left the Marinakis Group, bringing to a close a spell at Forest that was defined far more by controversy than success.
The writing had been on the wall for some time. Edu’s relationship with then-manager Nuno Espírito Santo famously broke down last summer over transfer disagreements — a fallout so severe that Nuno lasted just three games into the season before departing, having failed to land key target Adama Traore.

Edu’s time overseeing Forest’s football operations was widely regarded as disjointed, with several of his marquee summer signings from last year already having left the club. Interestingly, Forest don’t appear to be rushing to fill the void. Reports suggest Marinakis is currently satisfied with the work being carried out by George Syrianos behind the scenes, meaning a direct replacement for Edu isn’t considered an immediate priority.
