Alisson Becker’s frustration following Liverpool’s controversial draw with Nottingham Forest has now come at a genuine cost. The Brazilian goalkeeper has been formally charged and fined by the FA for misconduct, following his behaviour in the aftermath of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw last month.
What Triggered Alisson’s Anger
The incident stemmed from a penalty conceded by Alisson after he fouled former Liverpool player Neco Williams during the match. Morgan Gibbs-White stepped up and converted from the spot, and Alisson’s frustration lingered well beyond the final whistle.
As he left the pitch, the goalkeeper was seen kicking the fourth official’s board — the same board that had already sparked controversy earlier in the game after malfunctioning, which delayed Liverpool’s ability to make substitutions in the build-up to Forest’s penalty.
The Official Punishment
Alisson has now accepted the FA’s charge of misconduct and received a £8,000 fine, described by the governing body as the standard penalty for this type of offence. The FA’s statement read:
“Liverpool’s Alisson Becker has been fined £8,000 for misconduct at the Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest on 29 August. It was alleged that the goalkeeper acted in an improper manner around the tunnel area after the final whistle. Alisson Becker has subsequently accepted the charge against him and received the standard penalty.”
A Dramatic Afternoon at Anfield
The fixture itself was eventful from start to finish. It marked Liverpool’s first home game of the season, and Andoni Iraola’s side found themselves behind not once, but twice. Dan Ndoye opened the scoring for Forest in front of the Kop before Alexander Isak levelled things up for the hosts.
Gibbs-White’s contentious penalty then threatened to hand Forest a third consecutive win at Anfield — a genuinely significant milestone given Liverpool’s home dominance in recent years. However, summer signing Victor Munoz produced a crucial equaliser to ensure Liverpool avoided defeat on their own patch.

Adding extra context to Alisson’s frustration, it emerged just this week that the Premier League’s Key Match Incidents (KMI) Panel had reviewed the incident and concluded that referee Sam Barrott had wrongly awarded the penalty. Three of the five panel members felt Alisson’s challenge on Williams didn’t warrant punishment — though VAR ultimately chose not to intervene at the time.
The panel explained their reasoning: “The contact from Alisson was inevitable as a consequence of his momentum in attempting to save the ball. The contact made was not reckless and below the threshold for a penalty.”
The Bigger Picture
While the KMI Panel’s verdict offers some vindication for Alisson’s frustration in the moment, it hasn’t spared him from FA punishment for how he reacted.
